Readers who missed Part I of this two-part series can catch up here:
Today, we’re exploring non-fascist options for hardware/software/devices; social media; and offshoring retirement accounts (where options exist.)
Now that companies like Google, Apple, and Microsoft have kissed the fascist ring, how can I transition to non-fascist hardware, software, and devices?
My hardcore Apple household is having these conversations now. We can’t afford to spend five figures to replace our many Apple products. Instead, we are evaluating our options to replace systems as they become obsolete.
Our first instinct was to go with Korean Samsung products, but they donated $315,000 to this regime’s inauguration. I also considered Sony, but their possible donations to this regime are too murky. Sony has gone to great lengths to hide whatever support they’ve given this government. Suspicion is a deal-breaker.
When we must buy new mobile phones, we are considering the OPPO Reno line. We will use GrapheneOS to de-Google this Android device.
Currently, I read on my iPad. When this iPad is toast, I plan to replace it with either a Kobo e-reader or an OPPO Tablet.
As a writer, I’m a heavy laptop user. I hope to get several more years from my Macbook and have more non-fascist options when the time comes to replace it. If I had to switch out my Macbook right now, I’d probably go with a Hong Kong-based Lenovo product. I can find no evidence that Lenovo has supported this regime, but again, they could kiss the ring at any time.
Having tighter device security means:
-
Use smartphones without apps wherever possible. We are planning to dedicate an old smartphone to anything that requires an app to function and keep it in a Faraday bag when not in use.
-
Don’t use public wi-fi.
-
Leave smartphones and other devices at home when heading out.
-
Be judicious with your contact information.

Do we have any non-fascist social media options?

The EU has begun exploring the creation of an EU-based social media platform that can compete with US-and-China-based social media. GO HERE to find out more and follow this story as it develops.
Substack has always hosted Nazi and far-right content under the guise of “promoting free speech.” Given the recent infusion of cash from fascist venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, I expect Substack’s algorithm to continue to elevate far-right over progressive content. I believe they are already suppressing mid-to-low-tier progressive creators (including me.)
To preserve my work, I am migrating everything on my Substack to my own EU-based website. While I will still publish on Substack as I do now (for as long as it makes sense), I will also give subscribers options to subscribe directly to my site. Nothing will change other than YOU have more options.
Remember: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, TikTok, Google, YouTube, and Twitter/X are all FASCIST platforms. Some argue that we dilute their illiberal messages by being there, but I believe refusing to give them my data and attention is the best way to make them fail.
Related: I PROMISE. The people who truly care about you will find you if you aren’t on these platforms. You DO NOT need to be there to stay connected with anyone who truly cares about you.
I am thinking about the long term and my retirement savings. Is there anything I can do to protect those and invest them in ways that don’t support fascism?
YES. One option is to shift to a self-directed IRA and consider offshoring it. Message me if you’re interested in this option.
Self-directing and offshoring one’s IRA account won’t necessarily make it impervious to a predatory government. But it WILL give you more options besides US-based investments in US currency.
Offshore IRAs can operate on any stock exchange worldwide. In any currency. Investors can own gold and other precious metals inside the offshore IRA.
Offshore IRAs can invest in crypto. (Here’s a great newsletter from with his latest take on stable coins. Because crypto means high risk investment.)
Offshore IRAs give average Americans a lot more options for building retirement savings. There are costs to manage and it requires paperwork, but the added investment flexibility can be a bonus. I am not making financial recommendations but instead adding options to consider for the long-term.
While any of these companies could kiss the fascist ring, I couldn’t find any extant support for this regime. That could change at any time.
As I make changes, I’m letting companies know:
-
Why I’m leaving. (You’re supporting fascism.)
-
Why I’m joining/purchasing. (You ARE NOT supporting fascism.)
-
What will make me withdraw my support. (You kissed the ring.)
