What the Hell Is a “Heritage American?”

Hint: I think it means "White Christian Nationalist." Here's why...

Paid Subscribers! I’ve had a last-minute conflict for NOON eastern today. Join and me today at either 3 or 4pm eastern for a Substack LIVE on his time in a Black Christian Nationalist church. (I am trying to reschedule this with him as I type. If he can’t do either time today, I’ll reschedule for another day and let everyone know.
I’m sorry for my last-minute complication.

Yesterday, I took another approach to explain how White Christian Nationalists flip the separation of church and state upside down. They teach all adherents that the founders intended for the Separation of Church and State to protect the CHURCH from the STATE:

Today, I cover how the recently introduced concept of “Heritage American” ties into the White Christian Nationalist worldview.

Ali Breeland, a journalist at The Atlantic, published a piece on “Heritage Americans” yesterday. To read the whole article, GO HERE FOR A GIFT LINK.

Here’s how the Vice-President, who’s married to a first-generation American, describes “Heritage Americans:”

During a speech at the Claremont Institute in July, Vice President J. D. Vance said that “people whose ancestors fought in the Civil War have a hell of a lot more claim over America than the people who say they don’t belong,” referring to those on the “modern left” who conceive of American identity “purely as an idea.”

Before we get into “who is a Heritage American,” let’s look at some random definitions of the word HERITAGE.

You know, since THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION is largely responsible for where we are right now.

According to Oxford Languages, the word HERITAGE can have the following meanings:

  • Property that is or may be inherited; an inheritance.

  • An old North American botanical definition is “not hybridized with another; old-fashioned.”

  • An archaic definition is “Christians or the ancient Israelites. Seen as God’s chosen people.”

I’ve included a photo of this search, since stupid AI isn’t helpful to actually recreate these links:

Could it be that The Heritage Foundation deliberately chose the word HERITAGE and have been laughing at everyone else for 50 years because we didn’t understand they meant WHITE CHRISTIAN NATIONALIST FOUNDATION?

Based upon this search, it’s fair to ask if “Heritage American” doesn’t mean “family has been in the US since the Civil War” but actually means “White Christian Nationalist.”

Especially given this quote from The Atlantic article”:

The far-right writer and podcaster Scott Greer said this plainly. “Liberals look stupid when they freak out over such an anodyne term,” he wrote in an August column for The American Conservative endorsing the term. This vagueness is strategically useful, he argued, because “heritage American is more palatable to the public than ‘white.’”

“Who is a Heritage American?” is going to be the basis this regime uses to abolish birthright citizenship and elevate White Christian Nationalists in all aspects of life.

Right now, they say it means your ancestors have been in the United States at least since the Civil War and likely fought in that war. While they don’t pick a side for said ancestor, I wouldn’t be surprised if they award kudos to those who fought for the Confederacy instead of the Union.

What could “Heritage American” mean for every American? How does one prepare to prove one’s far-right fantasy “heritage?”

Every American needs to order official birth certificate copies.

I’ve been telling women and transgender people to do this since the election, but the idea of “Heritage American” makes official birth certificates an imperative for EVERY American. If this crowd gets much further, every American is going to have to produce proof of birthplace. A church baptismal certificate or unofficial birth listing won’t be enough.

Official birth certificates must be ordered from one’s state of birth. Go to that state’s website to search for ordering options if you’re out-of-state. (Most states use private sector companies to process these orders, which of course make them a thousand times less efficient. Plan accordingly.) In-state dwellers can usually visit an office located in the state capitol to order and pick-up those documents same-day.

If you have ancestry information, family trees, or other research, make sure it is up-to-date and store it in a secure place like a fireproof safe.

The popularity of the term “Heritage American” to the first person in line to the presidency portents being able to produce proof that one had at least one ancestor on the ground during the Civil War. While your family information may not be organized in terms of my great-great-granddaddy was a good reb who killed him some Yankees, it usually includes names, birthdates, marriages, and dates of death. If you’re lucky, you also have places of birth, marriage, and death. With that information, you can establish Civil War-era provenance (1861 – 1865.)

Many Americans won’t have this information, either because their ancestors came here after the Civil War or they are descended from enslaved people who were here during the Civil War but weren’t treated as human beings. Or they were here for millennia beforehand and didn’t keep those kinds of records.

Regardless, I recommend compiling as much as you can and storing it in a secure location. I am not suggesting you submit your DNA to any services to ‘affirm your ancestry.’

If anyone in your family is in the Daughters of the American Revolution or a similar group, they usually have a treasure trove of this kind of data.

Ask them for a copy of their research. By adding your connection to this family member, you have effectively traced your lineage to someone who fought in the American Revolution. Meaning you’re even more “heritage” than anyone who fought in the Civil War almost 100 years later.

Make copies of these documents and the associated research and keep them in a safe, fireproof, waterproof place.

I’m not saying any of this data will protect someone from a predatory government determined to nullify their citizenship. Especially when I believe “Heritage American” means “White Christian Nationalist.” For example, my DAR research indicates that I’m eligible to join the First Families of Virginia and the descendants of the Virginia House of Burgesses (which pre-date the United States), and JD Vance could still say I’m not a “heritage” American because he or his ilk could claim my work makes me not a “real” Christian.

But compiling this information could be an interesting diversion from the dumpster fire that is our country. It could give your family a project to focus on together. And it could reconnect you to distant family with whom you may have lost touch. Plus, it will be easier and less stressful to put this together BEFORE you need it.
